The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By the rotating heavens 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 it is no merriment. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
