The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
