The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the elevated canopy 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
