Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
