The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
