The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
