So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
