The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
