The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
