Remind them, therefore, that by the grace of your Lord you are neither a soothsayer nor possessed. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say: 'Wait if you will; I shall be waiting with you' 31 Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say, "He has invented it himself"? Indeed, they are not willing to believe. 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Have they not been created from some source, or are they themselves the creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord, or have they been given charge of them? 37 Or, do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or do they have knowledge of the Unknown which they write down? 41 Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones in war. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). 43 Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 and when their evil plans will be of no benefit to them nor will they be helped. 46 The unjust will suffer other torments besides this but most of them do not know. 47 Await the judgement of your Lord, for you are always before Our eyes, and glorify your Lord with praises when you rise, 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
