The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
