The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
