The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
