And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 He travelled on a certain road; 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water and near it he found some people. We said, "Dhu'l-Qarnayn! You can either punish them or else you can treat them with gentleness." 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Then he followed a way 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them? 94 He said: "The ability my Lord has given me is better. So help me with your manual labour; I will build a wall between you and them. 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 "This is the benevolence of my Lord," he said; "but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will reduce it to a mound of dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 And We shall bring hell in front of the disbelievers. 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
