The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. 1 No recent revival of the remembrance comes to them from their Lord, except that they play with it as they listen 2 their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" 3 He saith: My Lord knoweth what is spoken in the heaven and the earth. He is the Hearer, the Knower. 4 "Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!" 5 Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe? 6 And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know. 7 We had not made them such bodies that would not eat any food nor were they immortal. 8 Then We made Our promise good to them and delivered whomsoever We pleased, and destroyed the transgressors. 9 And assuredly We have sent down unto you a Book wherein is admonition for you; will ye not then reflect? 10
