۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
