۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
