Light (Al-Noor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WE HAVE REVEALED this Surah and made it obligatory as We have sent down clear injunctions in it that you may be warned. 1 The fornicatress and the fornicator -- scourge each one of them a hundred stripes, and in the matter of God's religion let no tenderness for them seize you if you believe in God and the Last Day; and let a party of the believers witness their chastisement. 2 The adulterer weddeth not but an adulteress or an associatoress: and the adulteress! none weddeth her save an adulterer or an associator; and that is forbidden unto the believers. 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 except that of those who afterwards repent and reform themselves; God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful. 6 And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars. 7 But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to death) from her, if she bears witness four times by Allah, that he (her husband) is telling a lie. 8 And the fifth that Allah's wrath be upon her if he is of the truthtellers. 9 And were it not for Allah’s munificence and His mercy upon you and that Allah is the Acceptor of Repentance, the Wise – He would then have unveiled you. 10
