Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ A sura which We have sent down and which We have ordained in it have We sent down Clear Signs, in order that ye may receive admonition. 1 The adulteress and adulterer should be flogged a hundred lashes each, and no pity for them should deter you from the law of God, if you believe in God and the Last Day; and the punishment should be witnessed by a body of believers. 2 The adulterer shall marry only an adulteress or a polytheist woman, and an adulteress shall marry only an adulterer or a polytheist man; such marriages are forbidden for believers. 3 And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient, 4 excepting [from this interdict] only those who afterwards repent and made amends: for, behold, God is much forgiving, a dispenser of grace. 5 One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, 6 And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars. 7 The woman's punishment can be averted if she swears four times by God as testimony that her husband is a liar, 8 And the fifth time, that the wrath of Allah be upon her if the man is truthful. 9 If Allah had not shown you His grace and mercy and if Allah had not been most Forgiving and All-Wise, (you would have been in a great fix because of accusing your wives). 10
