۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
