And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you call?" 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 "And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations." 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 "So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
