The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
