۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
