AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 They used to say before: 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
