Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 And had he not been of those who hallow Him, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.) 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 and we glorify God". 166 What though they would say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
