Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
