The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
