The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
