Thamud denied the warning 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Salih (Saleh)], and be patient! 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 A favor from Us; thus do We reward him who gives thanks. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 In the morning early there came upon them a settled chastisement: 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 40
