The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
