The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 And when the Garden is brought nigh, 13 [on that Day] every human being will come to know what he has prepared [for himself]. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 The closing night, 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
