Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
