The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
