Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
