Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
