Have you [Prophet] considered the man who turned away, 33 And gave a little and [then] refrained? 34 Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 35 Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa? 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that man will not obtain anything except what he strove for? 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 and that the final end is unto thy Lord, 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 And that it is He Who has created the two pairs, male and female? 45 from an ejaculated drop (of sperm), 46 and that it is for Him to grant the second life, 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 And destroyed the tribe of Thamud, not sparing anyone? 51 And the people of Nuh before; surely they were most unjust and inordinate; 52 And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 Which then of thy Lord's benefits wilt thou doubt? 55 He (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) is a Herald of Warning, like the former Heralds of Warning. 56 The Day of Resurrection draws near, 57 None except Allah can avert it. 58 Does this statement seem strange to them 59 And you laugh, and do not weep! 60 Will you remain proudly heedless? 61 Prostrate yourselves before Allah, and serve Him. ۩ 62
