He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
