Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
