And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said, “O you magician! Pray for us to your Lord, by the means of His covenant which is with you; we will certainly come to guidance.” 49 But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 And when they angered Us, We took vengeance on them and drowned all of them, 55 And We made them a precedent and example to the later generations. 56
