Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HA MIM. 1 By the clear Book, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
