Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
