Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
