Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain. 36 Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? 37 Or have they a stairway (to heaven), by means of which they listen (to the talks of the angels)? Then let their listener produce some manifest proof. 38 Or, has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or [do they think] that the hidden reality [of all that exists] is almost within their grasp, so that [in time] they can write it down? 41 Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones in war. 42 Or do they have a god apart from God? He is too exalted for what they associate with Him! 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 And indeed for the unjust is another punishment before this, but most of them do not know. (Punishment in the grave is proven by this verse.) 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 and glorify Him after the setting of the stars. 49
