The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
