The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then came down close 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
