The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
