The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 So know that Allah only is the Owner of all - the Hereafter and this world. 25
