The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
