The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
