The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
