The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and shade extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
